Julian Juillerat
About · Barcelona

An engineer's way of thinking, applied to product design.

I'm a product designer in Barcelona with an engineering background, specialised in making complex, technical products usable and human. I own design end to end — research, flows, UI and design systems — and work AI-native, prototyping at high fidelity to move fast and validate early.

Outside work I make music and climb — two ways of thinking that quietly shape how I design.

Product design across three very different problems — a deep-tech AI-validation platform, the digital ecosystem of a regulated bank, and a two-market competitive benchmark for a French bank.

Redesigned a deep-tech AI-evaluation platform end to end — corrected its structural model and cut the core flow from ~30–40 steps to one.

Handed off in production-fidelity HTML — engineering shipped the full rebuild in two weeks, in time for a relaunch that brought 500+ leads.

Client lead for a two-market competitive benchmark for a French bank — ran the delivery with a two-person research team, 14 platform analyses across Spain and Portugal.

Unified a regulated bank's digital ecosystem — trading, payments, everyday flows — onto the bank's own design language, replacing bolted-on third-party tools.

Owned design QA through implementation across the bank's growing component library, keeping consistency and accessibility intact as the library grew.

How I work

Six values I bring to a team.

Beyond the craft, this is how I work with the people around a project.

01
Empathy on both sides

For the user, of course — but also for whoever handed me the work. I put myself in a manager's or client's shoes to work out what they need from me, what problem I'm really solving, and why I'm paid to solve it.

02
Ownership by default

I own the outcome, not just my slice of it. I make the decisions within my remit and stand behind how they land — flagging early only what genuinely sits outside it, like budget, so nothing stalls on me.

03
Team before ego

I'd never step over a colleague to get ahead. It comes down to getting on, splitting the work fairly, and collaborating as openly and honestly as I can — always ready to hear out the team and the client.

04
Restless by nature

Always after something new — and always trying to get sharper at whatever's in front of me.

05
Optimise, kill the friction

Efficiency over most things. If a step exists for no good reason, it goes.

06
Unbothered by change

New projects, new tools, new direction — none of it rattles me. Learn on the go.

Outside work: music and rock.

When I'm not designing, I'm making music — producing and playing a handful of instruments with King Yanz and the live band, Yanz & The Kingzmen. We've sold out Barcelona venues of 120+ and toured Estonia for Tallinn Music Week. The rest of the time I'm on a rock face somewhere between Catalonia and the American Southwest.
